United States Postal Service Operation Santa Claus - Pennsylvania

Holly and red bows

Operation Santa ClausThe USPS Operation Santa Claus program has changed slightly to add a layer of security to protect little letter writers. "Dear Santa" letters will no longer be mailed or faxed to individuals — all requests must be made in person.

Individuals must present photo identification to receive letters.

Third parties, such as charities, businesses, schools etc., wishing to adopt up to 100 letters, must now fill-out forms as well. In this instance, it is best to contact your local post office to make an appointment.

Individuals, corporations and civic groups are encouraged to contact their local post office for letters. You can obtain the phone number of your local post office by visiting www.usps.gov or call toll free 1-800-ASKUSPS (1-800-275-8777). Days and times vary for program participation so customers should call their nearest Post Office for details.

This time of year, postal employees at the 30th Street Post Office keep the tissue box handy at all times.

As part of "Operation Santa Claus" they volunteer to sort through thousands of letters from area children who won't get Christmas presents this year.

"We all are in need of so much," writes one youngster. "I know my aunt and her two girls need boots.
